My High School Exspectations

I expect to be well educated in every class through high school. And at the same time have fun. Also, I expect to,well, get excellent grades so my resume to college will look impressive. And if I'm lucky my grades will open up the possibility of a scholarship. I also expect the teachers to make learning the subject their teaching more enjoyable. If you enjoy doing something chances are you will put more effort towards it and do better at it.

Within the next 3.5 years of high school I wish to avoid Study Hall and any other punishment(knock on wood). By the time I graduate I hope to also expect to play a couple different sports. Such as football and Golf. And another major thing in high school I expect from myself is to pass the WASL in my freshman year. Or at least most of it.

Fable for Blackboard

I chose this poem because of its word choice and lack of a real meaning. Almost all the nouns I had to look up in a dictionary because I did not know the meaning. After finding the meanings of the words the poem made a lot more sense to me. I feel fairly confident I'll do well presenting but I'm still not quite sure whether or not to use hand signs to show the poem meaning.

I don't believe this poem holds any personal signifigance to me nor does it mean much to me. I also don't think there is much of a connection between me and the poem. I will prepare for the contest by reciting the poem so many times by memorization that when it comes time to present I won't have to think about it. I can just concentrate on the emotion I put in to the presentation.

Fire and Ice

I interpret Fire and Ice's meaning is that everyone has a preference to how they would like the world to end (if it had to). I think the poem is saying that there are 2 ways for the world to end, up in fire or frozen in ice. Some people would prefer up in fire and others would prefer frozen in ice. The author, Robert Frost, ironically chose that he would like the world to end in flames. But he would also except frozen in ice if he lived the scenario again.

I chose this poem because I have an opinion to on how I would like the world to end too. If it was up to me, I would have the world end in a sheet of ice rather than every thing and person burn to death. It seems like it would be much more pleasant to die of the cold then it would be to die on fire. That must sound odd to be talking about that but it is my honest opinion. The end of the world will not be relevant to my life or lifetime but in 5 million years people should start thinking about it.

The Movie

The first scene in the movie stands out to me the most. Because it is the first scene in the movie it is the first time you see the characters. It was such a shocker to see Dill as a well kept boy. And Scouts screeching, irritating voice. Both were completely the opposite of what I thought they were be in the movie.

I pictured Dill in the book more like a Walter Cunningham in the way he dressed and acted. And Scout, her voice was much higher than I would have thought for a tomboy. The setting, as in the houses and yards, was just like I pictured it. The costumes were ok because their wasn't much change in what clothes was worn between the time the film was made and the book was written.

My Life After To Kill A Mockingbird

This book hasn't had really a impact on my life and I don't believe I've changed. But I have learned that looking at things through someone Else's shoes is difficult but will help you in the future. Like when Atticus said, "You don't really know them until you get into their skin and walk around in it."

I also learned how difficult it used to be to get along with a different color group. The book taught me that it is nice to treat people with respect and they will do the same to you. Because I think that without respect, you have nothing.

Lifes Big Lessons

I think Jem and Scout are learning about a very big life lesson in these past few chapters and throughout the entire book. Racism. During the trial they observe a lot of racism coming through many people in many different ways. He observed the judges side with white people on every subject. He observed Tom Robinson being treated very unfairly by the the witnesses and prosecuting attorney. Also when Tom says,"I am really tired of white men's chances, and I prefer to take my own."This shows how fed up Tom is with racism.

I think racism is really important to learn about because I don't believe we students in this time understand how big racism and segregation was. We had different bathrooms, drinking fountains and stores. A lot has changed since that time but it hasn't completely disappeared. There is still racism in the U.S. but it is fading away and I'm glad it doesn't occur anywhere close to us. At least I don't think there is any active racism groups in Olympia?

Theme

There are several themes in To Kill A Mockingbird. One apparent theme that is shown through several characters is the Mocking Motif. A Mockingbird is an innocent person, or a victim, who has done nothing wrong, but people dislike them and avoid them for no good reasons. Three characters who are known to be "mockingbirds" are Dill, Tom Robinson, and Arther(Boo) Radley. Boo Radley did nothing wrong but sadly the people of Maycomb think of him as a weird person who never wants to be with people. Ms. Maudie gives an excellent definition of a mockingbird, "Mockingbirds don't do one wrong but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncobs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."(pg. 90).

Dill has also been innocent and sweet from the start but his parent don't care about him or spend any time with him. He feels so left out he runs away from home to Jem and Scouts house. Tom Robinson. on the other hand, is being accused of raping a white girl. Tom has no criminal record nor has done nothing to upset anyone. All three characters are mockingbirds for there own reasons.

Atticus Spreckens Little To Kinda

I think Atticus Finch's' parenting style is a bit odd. keeping info away from his children such as, "She our cousin? I didn't know that." Now knowing who your relatives are seems like something that shouldn't be kept secret from you. Of course there is no inclination in the book that Jem or Scout ask about their relatives but still, you'd think they would know.

My mother would tell me every update of the day if I asked but my father would regularly only give me the need to know basics.

Boo Radley is Changing his Image

"I pulled out two small images carved in soap. One was the figure of a boy, the other wore a crude dress... They were almost perfect miniatures of two children. They both had on shorts, and a stock of soapy hair fell to his eyebrows. I looked up at Jem. A point of straight brown hair kicked downwards from his part. I had never noticed it before.
Jem looked from the girl-doll to me. The girl-doll wore bangs. So did I.
"These are us," he said." (pp. 59-60)

I believe that Boo Radley had been watching them, Jem, Scout and Dill, and might have wanted to be with them. Boo Radley doesn't seem like a creep but a person who wants friends and to see what life is like outside his house. Mr. Radley was extremely religious. That might mean that Boo Radley is also very religious. Maybe its me but Atticus's discussion didn't sound very special.

Spooky Boo Radley

I believe the rumors are false. The people of Maycomb like any other town will say what ever they want to say about people they do not like. Say you hate a certain person and you want to make them look bad. You will say what ever you like to say about the person. And then the rumors start to spread as more and more people are passing down the message from you. I don't know, I'm just blabbering now. lol
I think I'm more similar to Dill because I do a lot more taunting and push people to do things more than actually doing it. Dill is kinda a wimp that makes bets. Just like me! I have only read one chapter of the book so I don't know everything about Dill so I can't compare Dill and I to closely. Dill is also a older brother which am I to. So its not only our personalities we have in common.

The Best Thing In English So Far!!!!

  • The best thing about English so far is the teacher, Mrs. Gilman. She is awesome! Never have I had a English teacher so hyped about technology. Not even my 6th grade sci-tech teacher Mrs. Piper wanted to get in touch with the blogging universe. This will make English much more exciting and original.

GO BEARS!!!
